| This year's theme is "Thanks a Million". The event's goal is to break the million dollar mark. |
So since I am quite the noob to the Southern Interior, I was not aware that today was a day of utmost significance! Yes, my friends. Today is Wendy's 18th annual DreamLift Day! Sounds pretty epic doesn't it? Well, that's because it is. Dreamlift Day is an annual one-day fundraiser that raises money to send children with severe physical disabilities or life-threatening illnesses to Disneyland each year. And at Disneyland, the children are escorted around the themepark like VIPs by the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
The event has become more than just a huge success in the Okanagan, it's become a bit of a tradition I think. This is testament by the fact that there were people willing to wait up to an hour for a cheeseburger. That is not normal human behaviour. That is what I call super.
Oh and yes, Wendy was here. The actual grown-up Wendy whose cartoonized-adolescent face is plastered on all of the restaurant's take-out paper bags, soda cups and burger wraps. Wendy came all the way from Ohio to visit restaurants in Kamloops, Penticton and Kelowna. The only disappointment was that she did show up in high-tied red pigtails.
And since all of today's sales and staff wages will be donated to the DreamLift program, I indulged in an all time favourite, the french fries & chocolate frostee Combo.
what Wendy is an actual person?! hah
